    SKIATHOS

Skiathos may be the smallest of the Sporades islands, but it’s by far the most popular especially among young travelers and affluent vacationers. Despite its small size, Skiathos boasts spectacular pine-forested landscapes and over 60 dream beaches, one of which, Koukounaries, is consistently ranked among the top three in Greece.

Offering lively night entertainment, fine dining, and stylish hotels with high-end amenities, private gold-sand beaches and grounds that spread out like a charming island village, Skiathos has become to be known as the ‘Mykonos of Northern Aegean’. Most of the action is centered around Papadiamantis Street, the main shopping area in Skiathos Town with elegant boutique stores selling handcrafted items and summer clothing. The island also bursts with activities: sailing, snorkeling, water skiing, and jeep safari tours.

Entertainment aside, history buffs will find Skiathos’ sights and monuments fascinating including Bourtzi, the small Venetian fortress at the harbor; Kastro, the old settlement (13th-19th centuries) where all the inhabitants of the island moved to protect themselves from the pirates and the Ottomans; and, the Monastery of the Annunciation where the first Greek flag was woven.

Skiathos International Airport (JSI) connects the island with several international destinations and the airport is a tourist attraction of its own for the amazing seaside runway and spectacular landings.
